Seating Die Question

This may be the dumbest question in the history of the forum but...
The seating dies I have come with two inserts. I believe they are for different types of bullets HP vs FP. The Instructions that come with the dies however make no mention of them. I was hoping someone could give me a brief explanation.

The dumb questions are those not asked.

It would be helpful if you could mention the brand name of the dies. The term "ínsert" could mean several things, depending on the manufacturer and/or possible age of the dies.

Pictures could be very helpful as well, if possible.

Sorry,
I believe the correct term is seating stem. It is for Hornady dies. It is inserted in the die and retained with a small ring.

Sounds like they are pistol dies, possibly one for round nose and one for flat nose.

Yep, they are for 44 Mag and 40 S&W. I am loading up some of the fine brass and bullets you sent my way. Which one would be the correct one for seating XTP's? I figured the hollowed out ones were fro the round nose and the flats were for the flat points but which to use on the JHP's?

Oh cool, sounds great. 

You can take the bullet and match it to the seating stem to see which ones fit best, so it is centered when being seated.

Yes, the round nose one would probably fit best since it have a round radius even though it has a flat XTP hollow point.

The flat point seating stem are usually for semi wad cutter's.

I am in no rush to see him grow up. It just seems like they tease you by sleeping through for awhile and then quit again. He is 10 months. Wouldn't change a thing. I hope he likes guns and hunting.
