Ruger 10-22 hi cap mags

What are your thoughts on which mags to stay away from and which ones are working well for you?

Avoid Butler Creek!  I bought one of their, I think it was a 25 rounder, the piece of junk wobbled in the magazine well, would jamb frequently too.  I almost dropped my rifle trying to hold the gun to try to get some kind of angle to get it to work.  Did get it to fire all 25 rounds with only 2-3 jambs on rare occasions, liked the semi-clear plastic case to see how much ammo was in it.  It had a really cheap plastic construction on feeding lips.

I have 2 Ruger 10/22's so it was not the guns, I don't foresee buying anymore high cap. magazines for my Ruger's unless there are some recommendations on any that actually function.  I lost $20.00 on that Butler Creek garbage, threw it into the trash after using it for target practice.  At least it shattered dramatically with a .22 round hitting it.

I can't understand why you would want to take a nice slim trim carbine and make it nasty in your hands. I know, I had the same impulse when I was young long long ago, but it didn't take long to outgrow the urge. 10 rounds is a lot of bullets and changing a mag is not all that slow.

  I never caught the allure of blasting away for 20 or 30 rounds myself.  More of a slow fire, control each shot shooter I guess.  That said, if you're gonna get 'em go with the Tactical Innovations ones. Cost a little more but you'll get what you pay for.

I'd stay away from all of them.          The ones I had weren't reliable at all. I ended up taking them back, getting a refund and buying another Ruger magazine.

I have heard the ones with plastic lips by one maker were junk , couldn't remember who.
Wasn't there steel lipped ones made at one time, wonder if they were any better. I am not really sure how many makers were out there. Butler creek and Hot Lips , were they  one in the same?

  I wouldn't buy my worst enemy anything from Butler Creek.  Their fodder is cheap for a reason.  As I said abaove, if you need such an item the Tac-In ones are the way to go.  They have stainless lips which I think are replaceable is ever needed, the two pice body is available in aluminum or polymer and is built so it can be taken apart for cleaning.  heck the feedback on these at RimfireCentral - THE home for anything 10/22 - and you'll see that the rest agree.

I did notice that the high capacity mag had alot of play to it as it had the extended leverage aspect, it hung down and acted more like a loose aircraft landing gear.  The factory 10 rounder has play inside the mag well too, there is some see-saw movement.  The advantage with the Ruger 10 rounder is there is less elongated leverage to worry about, it sits flush with the stock, so it is more stable.  Ten rounds is fine as I shoot one or two rounds, rest, shoot one or two rounds, etc.

I think the high capacity mag would be good idea if you were hunting lots of ground squirrels and needed the firepower.

Thanks guys , i found the tac in ones , 65 for the metal ones . do not want one that bad.
But 35 for their plastic ones .......... thats more of what I was thinking

Get your self some Ram-Line 10-22 magazines. I've bought several over the years that have all worked perfectly. Two were even the 50 round versions, which generally are the worst to keep working good. I recently bought three more Ram-Line 30's, all of which work flawlessly in my rifle.

I have 2 Eagle 30 rounders, 1 Butler Creek "STEEL LIPS" 25 rounder and 5 Butler Creek "HOT LIPS" 25 rounder, 3 Butler Creek "STEEL LIPS" 10 rounders and 14 Eagle 10 rounders,  all work well in all of my 10/22's with the Eagle 30 rounders being the most prone to jamming.  I also have two NIW BC "HOT LIPS" 25rounders that I can't comment on.  My future purchases will all be BC "STEEL LIPS" at $29.99 each at the local Sportsman's Warehouse!   I did find all of them cheaper in Shotgun News, but you have to pay shipping.  The Eagles can be found for as little as $8 each if you are looking for quantity, however.  Good luck!
