Unreal!! I worked there back in the late 80's and the prison system was overcrowded then. As Rutherford states " I have not seen any logic to that decision, there's a 35% over capacity already"  Not just 600 employees are affected by this but their families too, which could litterally leave 1000's of people affected by this.

More political BS from Chicago politicians?  That IS surprising.  Thompson was finished seven years ago and was going to provide all kinds of jobs for that area but was never opened.  Hell, by the time they get prisoners into it it'll be in need of updating.

The Thompson CC is a JOKE at this point! About 150 Minimum security Inmates. It would be interesting to see what the cost per-Inmate is at Thompson CC. !!!!!! As a taxpayer you would not be happy >:(

Heard today from an AFSCME member, they think this is a ploy to halt Rutherfords attempt to run for governor next election? Suppress Livingston County.

I have a request for anyone even remotely connected with an Illinois prison? Please write your state reps and senators and the governor, request this doesn't happen. Give what economical effects it will have on your community and don't forget what it will do to the housing, education, and every other facet of life. Please, take Sen. Rutherford's advice and be polite in your correspondences?

Well, the rapture of rambling Rod is happening again. Now his crew is making statements like he may not close PCC but, he hasn't confirmed this himself of
or through his staff? Pontiac is in "limbo" again???

Does Dixon have a hiring freeze on? All the unconfirmed rumors of Pontiac not being closed, now, we haven't heard if a different prison will be Blagojevich's target? Too bad this thread had to be moved, it's specific to the people of Illinois where it was originally posted.

Sorry that's my fault. I moved it because it was not hunting or fishing related and felt others might want to get involved in this discussion. I have been told since then by the mang. that anything state specific like this topic can stay in the appropriate state forum.

My bad.

The hiring freeze is state wide.I believe the training academy in Springfield is shut down. The state has not replaced anyone that has left(quit, transfered, fired, retired&etc)for about 2yr.

Well, Blagojevich did it, he anouced today at 3:00 P.M. that Dec. 31 '08 will be the last day for PCC.
I ask you, do we really want another Chicago Democrat(Obama) as President of the U.S.A.?

S.B.,
Ya know, I just don't think that most people realize just what a tsunami of horror that a Obama/Dem win would be in November.  With the Dem majority in Congress and Obama as president we would be in for a cultural change that will wipe out American heritage from the beginning to this date.  I saw a pickup in my neighbor's driveway with an NRA sticker in the window, and he had an Obama/Biden sign on his front lawn.  What in the world goes on in his noggin?
My understanding is that Blago now has a 13% approval rating and will soon be indicted.  That's good.  The sooner they put his sorry butt away, the better.  Too bad the Republicans in Illinois are so poorly positioned to respond to this opportunity for improvement.
CIVES ARMA FERANT - Let the citizens bear arms.
POLITICIANS SHOULD BE LIMITED TO TWO TERMS - ONE IN OFFICE AND ONE IN PRISON.... Illinois already does this.
