Never owned a lever rifle am now considering one for possible hog hunting, brush gun, under 100yd shots. I notice there are many differnt barrel twists (1:19-1:38) I plan on shooting jacketed and hard cast bullets.
So I think micro grooves is out. What do you lever fans suggest?

Don't believe the Micro-Groove and lead myth. As far as the twist if you want to shoot the 300 gr bullets go faster, if not go slower. Personally I would pick the rifle I liked and not really worry about twist. Sean

I've got a Winchester Trapper in 44mag, Lyman 66 receiver sight and I shoot home cast Lee 310 grain gas checks and 240grain gas checks. It is plenty accurate enough, and hits like a ton of bricks. It will feed everything from the 44mags with heavy bullets through 44spec with 240gr slugs without any problems. I even slow stroke it at the range to save my brass and it feeds fine.

I think Marlin has dropped the micro groove rifling on recent guns.

I recently bought a Marlin 1894 in .44 and it shoots well, but it doesn't like to feed SWC bullets. I like it a lot, but I prefer the Winchester 1892 design as in my Rossi .357 SRC.
