New RIA M1911 A1 problem (was grips & magazines).
« on: November 16, 2008, 11:55:48 PM »
Good morning fellas,

I'm not sure why but I've got my eye on a nickel Rock Island M1911 5" 45 acp that I want to rig up with imitation pearl grips.

The pistol comes with a blued magazine with a black bumper and I'd like to go with stainless without the bumper pads so that the magazine fits flush with the bottom of the magazine well....does anyone onboard have a couple stainless magazines they want to part with or know of where I can pick up a couple that are well made and resonably priced ?

Will all grips and magazines being sold by everyone for M1911's fit the RIA's ?

Thanks....Ike

My vote is for Chip McCormick mags, and I think they may come in stainless, which is close enough to nickle so you wouldn't notice.

The pearl grips however, are something else.  I would check out sponsors list and the graybeard links to different parts makers first, and see what you come u0p with.  Good luck.  Mikey.

I'm pretty sure any grips designed for any 1911 will fit your RIA, but to be sure, take one off and take it to the gun shop--lay it over the grip of a Colt, Kimber, Taurus, etc. or a Hogue or Pachmayer grip to see that the holes match up.  If so, you should be able to Google up any number or grip makers to get what you want.

As for mags, the Chip McCormick stainless mags are a good buy and reliable. The ones I recently bought came with bumper pads in the package but not installed, so it's your option whether to screw them on.  I personally prefer Wilson Combat mags.

I've never seen a nickled RIA. Interesting.

Well after working 1/2 day I went to the gunshow yesterday and found not one but three brand new nickel RIA M1911 A1's....I picked one up for $450.00 OTD.

I just finished disassembly and cleaning and I've got a problem.....inside the barrel looked really dirty prior to swabing with Hoppes but hoping for the best (after swabing) I next used a nylon tornado brush in Hoppes and then a brass brush but come to find out the beginning of the barrel rifling is badly corroded / pitted for about 1/4" just forward of the ramp.

It may or may not have caused the problem but it came with two spent casings that were used for factory test firing....it appears to me they should have swabed the barrel afterwards.

Of the 1/2 dozen or so contacts on the Armscor web site only one is in the U.S. (Nevada) and I just emailed them explaining the problem and ask for a new barrel.

Just wanting to know what to expect, has anyone had to contact Armscor customer service and if so were you satisfied ?

Is there a better contact than the main Nev. email address (Armscor@armscor.net) on the web site ?

let me see if i understand your problem. You bought a USED gun at a gun show and want the mfg. to fixt it under warranty. As for parts any part that fits on a g.i. issue1911 will fit on the gun ,Grips may require a bushing change. Speaking of grips remember what gen Patton said "Pearl grips are for pimps"
the nation that forgets it defenders will itself be forgotten

Thanks for the info Steve.

Torpedo where in my post do you see where I said that I bought a USED gun ??

You need to reread the post....I said there were three BRAND NEW nickel RIA's at the show and I walked away with one for $450.00 OTD.

It Is New !!

As far as the pearl pimp grips go, I think I'll look really dapper pulling up to the firing line driving my long pink Caddy while wearing my big feathered wide brimmed purple hat and flashing my pearl gripped nickel 45.....heck I may even end up with a gold front tooth or two and a big diamond pinky ring.
