What kind of wood on the 453 varminter?
« on: October 01, 2008, 02:34:44 PM »
Thinking about buying one of these. I looked at one in a big box store... I wasnt very impressed with the quality of the wood. It didnt look like walnut to me..  Just came from their website..They say walnut. But the one in the pic is 20 time's better looking than the one in the store. The one in the store looks more like the hardwood (birch maybe)  on my 10/22 Thanks all Drop

According to CZ, the stock on the Varminter is American Black Walnut.  Might be a piece that's all sapwood!

You would do all that for a measly CZ453 Varminter?? You know what?

So would I.  ;)

Hope it all works out great for you. Also hope you get a nicely figured stock. Most CZ stocks seem to be pretty darn nice, but some are just plain gorgeous. We'll need some pictures too. :)

Sure, see what happens when a guy gets a new CZ. He forgets about his friends at Graybeards and stays out in the woods shooting all day. We probably won't be seeing old 12ptdroptine around here for awhile now that he has a new 453 Varminter.  ;)

I recently purchased a CZ453... and its stock appears to be walnut and while it is not "fancy", it is a nice looking stock... and certainly NOT "plain".    ;)

I got a cz 452 Varminter .22lr in 2000. I "THINK" that is before sorting out the "good wood" to sell as an upgrade. Am I happy ? You bet. It has fiddleback and curl throughout. ( It is the luck of the draw). Even made a different trigger guard to go with it. See below: That is an "articulated" BRNO single shot clip. If I told you how well it shoots.....well you would tell me I was stretching the truth... I am not.  It outshoots my Anschutz.
