I find that the super 14 barrel is the one that mainly shows up for sale on boards. I want a .357Max in 9 or 10". has anyone cut down a barrel ? Results?

I've cut down lots of barrels. Just be sure you have a good lathe and that you get the crown centered with the bore. The bore isn't always concentric with the outside diameter. As far as accuracy goes I have never had one shoot worse than when I cut it, and usually better. KN

cut & recrown

I just talked to a local gunsmith today about recrowning a heavy bullberry barrel that had slight damage to crown when I got it. It is blue and he says the equipment might leave marks when it is chucked into place. Also what do you do about the end of the barrel that was recrowned or cut and recrowned as far as bluing. I don't want to have marks on barrel but don't want to have it completely reblued either. Any suggestions. Ed

Can you guys give me some idea what it should cost to cut and recrown a barrel and who do you recommend that can do a good job in a reasonable amount of time.

I just use some liquid touch up bluing on the ends of my barrels. Since it covers the whole surface it looks pretty good. I cant tell much difference. You can use lead strips or some thing similar to protect the barrel from the chuck jaws. KN
