model 44 question

i got a model 44 in .44 mag, 4 inch barrel, like NIB in a trade.
i plan on using it for hunting. question, how hot can i reload for this ? i was concidering a 245gr. swc and around 9 or 10grs. of titegroup.. for 1175fps..
 should be ok ?

You can safely load it to SAAMI max that means all reloading manual supplied data should be safe. Internet data might not be but then some internet supplied loads aren't safe in anything.

I hope yours is better than mine. The M44 I bought new in box tossed two of six bullets from each cylinder full side ways thru the target at 25 yards, two more clearly were yawing and then two of them made round holes as all six should have.

I had the dealer ship it back for me and then convinced him to accept the replacement that would eventually return to him as a trade in and bought me another brand.

I know your lack of fondness for Taurus'. i can appreciate that too. i dunno how its gonna shoot, the guy i got it from bought it new and seemed to like it.
 if it keyholes then its back into trade off circulation, we'll see i just did want to load up for it and have it shoot loose, my other taurus ( model 606 ) .357 is a great gun, im hoping this one folllows suit.

My model 44 is a good shooter. The owners manuel did say to stick to standard weight bullets. I have run some CorBon 305 grain Penetrators with out any problem. I do pretty much stick to 240 to 250 grain loads. Handloads I keep below max. If I want to shoot the heavy weight loads I shoot the Super BlackHawk.

i ended up with a  240 gr. xtp over 20 grs. of IMR 4227 with CCI 300 primers. i rolled up 100 count of these, should be ok in the gun and should take a whitetail fine if i do my part. i dont want to hammer the gun and these should be just fine, right out of the Lyman book, but i used R-P brass

The Model 44 tracker manual says the highest level load is a 240 grain bullet at 1350 fps.   I think your best bets will be a 240 at 1200, esp with a cast keith-design bullet, and a 300 grain pill at 1100 fps.    The loads are conservative, yes, but they will do the job on deer and hogs.  My Tracker has killed 2 hogs with Winchester USA 240 gr JSPs, and hogs are built a little tougher than deer.
