"Harrington & Richardson" (Not NEF) Sidekick .50 Caliber...
« on: October 25, 2008, 06:59:04 AM »
...does anyone have one? Besides me? I just bought one of these on an auction site that is stamped H&R, not NEF. I didn't even know they existed. This is a new 26" nickel/SS/synthetic with the extra wart (view port pin) on the right side, black hammer and trigger (instead of silver like my older NEF's). It will probably be a week to 10 days before it will be in my possession. I have a NEF Sidekick 24", and NEF Huntsman 24", both with 7/8" plugs. I have wanted one of the 26" barrels to get the most out of my Blackhorn 209 powder, it will be much easier to convert a couple existing 209 plugs that are already 5/8"-20 tpi to fit the 5/8" breech.

If you have one stamped H&R, please reply. I have seen a lot of Handi-Rifles with the H&R stamp over the last year or so also. The pic was a little blurry, but it definitely was stamped Harrington & Richardson.

I have an H&R handi-rifle. I bought it as a bull barreled .223. It is away right now getting the .50 cal muzzleloader barrel, a .45-70 barrel, and a .308 barrel fitted. (I sent it in August - still waiting. First they were backordered on fore ends, now they are back ordered on muzzleloader barrels and breechplugs).

I do not know if there are any differences between the NEF and the H&R, as I have only the one. (The only readily visible difference I have noted is a handsome brass H&R brass medallion inlaid into the buttstock). In .223 my H&R is a great rifle at any price, though. With the right reloaded ammunition it will hold groups tighter than I can shoot them.

Hey Busta,
I just bought one of the H&R .50 sidekicks as a gift for my brother. I also didnt know the were even made I thought it would be a NEF when I ordered it. We took it out shooting last week after about 5 rounds sighting in it was shooting just as good as my Encore! Do you know if there are any "after market 209 breech plugs" that dont take the orange carrier ?

tlinch4457,

First, welcome to the forum.

The Huntsman and Sidekicks have always been accurate. Sorry to say that there are no aftermarket 209 breech plugs. I have one that Ben Hubbard made, but he told me he would not be making any more of them. I am looking to convert a couple existing 5/8" - 20 TPI breech plugs to use in mine once I get the exact dimensions. I will be sending you a PM about the Sidekick, check your "MY MESSAGES" tab please.

Busta,
I got your P.M. and I think I responded but it did not show up in my out box? Let me know if you got it.
Thanks
