Huntsman Accesory barrels + forend??
« on: February 07, 2011, 10:43:12 AM »
I've heard rumors both ways on this. Does Rem still sell .50 Huntsman/Sidekick barrels and forends? I know they are not on the H-R site but supposedly Rem still makes them and will fit one to a frame?????? Can anyone shed some light on this. I'd call CS but I don't have much luck with Rems CS. They don't seem to know much.

Yes, they have Huntsman barrels, see the New Accessory Barrels sticky in the H&R Centerfire Rifle forum, they're ~$135 plus the usual fitting, shipping and tax. CS will more than likely tell you they don't have any, hopefully they'll get up to speed sooner or later, but they do have them, a lot of them according to Brian56 who works for Remington in Ilion.

You can't buy a Sidekick barrel, they were only sold as a complete muzzleloader.

How do I go about ordering one then if CS does not know they exist? I'd send in my .243 rifle frame right NOW if I was confident that I'd get a Huntsman barrel and forend fitted. Seriously! I'm still kicking myself for not buying a Sidekick from Cabelas when they were discounting them to get rid of them.

Send your order in, it doesn't go to CS in Madison, it goes to Ilion NY, follow the directions on the H&R acc barrel page, see reply #36 in the sticky I linked to.

Do you or does anyone else have any idea what the forend is made off? Is it the Choate synthetic? Pre Rem wood forends that they have leftover (the dark stained hardwood)? Or the current very light colored wood? This makes a difference in how I fill out the order form. Thanks!

If Brian56 doesn't reply, you could PM him or Getom59 who got one already. I think it's pallet wood.

I ordered a muzzleloader barrel on 12/9/2010 and just received it today.  The invoice shows:

$19.00 Shipping and Handling
$25.00 Barrel Fitting
$96.00 Barrel
$15.00 Scope Base
$  7.80  Tax
__________________________
$162.80 Total

Thanks to Brian and quickdtoo for all their help in making this happen.

Brian PM'ed me back. He says they have both the wood and synthetic. The wood is the older, darker forends as opposed to the lighter post Rem takeover wood stocksets.

Still the same more than likely since they still come with primer carriers.

Tim

I don't know about changes to the breech plug.  It came with a ramrod, forearm, and primer carriers.

It's easy to pop the primer carrier off of the barrel.
