ported 500 barrels worth it?

I'm thinking of getting a second barrel for my Mossy 500 12ga. What is the opinion on ported barrels for this gun?
Do they really raise the noise level like ported rifles?
I am considering a 24 or 28 inch vent rib with accuchokes. I have done a little turkey hunting and less recoil would be welcome there. My gun has the plastic stock, could use a better recoil pad and occasionally really whacks me in the nose if I don't watch my head position.
thanks.

Dand, I have a Mossberg 500 w/a 28" ported barrel. I have shot it hunting quail only. Low recoil with this barrel. I also have it set up for Turkey hunting but never shot it.
I'm selling the barel and chokes, look in general classifieds. RonS

My best friend had a bolt action Mossberg in 16 gauge that was ported. It was nasty when he shot it beside me. You need ear protection. I have a 12 gauge 500 with a ported slug barrel. It does reduce the muzzle jump. I was at the range today and ran about 20 slugs thru it. It is a smooth bore slug gun but I will say this...it shoots tight groups at 50 yards with both Remington and Winchester foster style slugs. I was wearing ear protection when I shot.
