Ruger Mk ll shoulder stock?
« on: November 14, 2008, 06:38:58 AM »
Does anyone know where I might find a shoulder or "buntline" type stock for a Ruger Mk ll? This would be a nice accessory for mine with the 10" bull barrel, even if I had to have one custom made.

Are you aware that adding a shoulder stock to a pistol with a 10 inch barrel creates a short barreled rifle, a violation of federal law?  A shoulder stock requires a barrel of at least 16 inches.  That may be why there aren't many available.

I did not know this would violate any laws. I thought I remembered seeing one for a modern style Colt or Browning .22 auto, but maybe it did have a longer barrel.

Browning came out with a rifle based on the Buck Mark pistol.

Illegal as heck unless you pay the $200 tax and have the gov't up your rear end.

Don't even think about it unless you go through the proper steps---or you can spend 10 years being bubba's girlfriend in Leavenworth.

Not worth it.

OK, OK, I get it. So much for that project. I guess I'll just have to shoot those walnuts off that tree wihtout a stock on it.

Well, it's not entirely off the table.  There is a legal option.  Some time back, Craig Wheatley (I think) of Tactical Innovations made a non NFA shoulder stock.  The trick that made it legal was the fact that it didn't actualy attatch to the gun.  The grip end kind of fit up against the back of the grip, when you held the grip and stock they feel suprisingly stable. I have one and will post a pic as soon as I can.

One of the guys at the range had something like that where he had a tube stock that attached to his wrist.  It was stable and worked OK.
He brought it out when I had my Buck Mark Sillohuette set up with a scout scope and would put the fore end of the pistol on my elbow and grabbed my right elbow with my left hand.  Poistion is really stable but I will only do it with the long barreled pistols.

there was a neat stock made from thick aluminum rod for sale breifly back in the late 70's, I believe.like the other fellow said, it was not connected, you gripped it to hold the two together.but if you added a piece of tape around the grip to hold it together, then it was illegal...
