Savage 110/111 rear tang floating

I read some where, that the rear tang on the savage 110 is suppose to be free floated? that was the first time I ever heard that anyone else ever heard that? wish I could remember which forum I read that on.

Do they come that way or did you have to float it yourself? if so how do you go about it?  Thanks!    I have the 111 in synthetic stock.

Yes, it should float.  I just put a couple layers of tape there when I bed the action.  You could sand that section of the stock down to relieve it also.  They should come that way from the factory but don't always.

 I will put a little lipstick on the stock in that area and see if it transfers to the metal.  Thanks!

You can just try to slip a business card(or something similar) in there with the action tightened into the stock.

Every Savage I have ever seen or held NEVER has a fully floated tang from the factory. It's always close on the left side of the tang (from the buttstock).

IMHO, I believe this is a myth. Every one of my Savage's all have this condition and it doesn't affect the accuracy in any way!

Again, I say IMHO, not saying it is a fact. I just don't believe it's any reason to drive yourself crazy. IF you gain any accuracy from floating the tang, it will be minimal. So minimal, it won't make a noticeable difference.

 Since the rear action screw is in front of the trigger, if the tang is not free-floated it will put a bind on the rear of the action when tightened. Alot of times if it isnt free-floated and hits on the sides, it can cock the action/barrel a little, which could cause the barrel to sit off center in the barrel channel.
