300 win magnum & extractor
« on: November 18, 2008, 04:49:04 AM »
A buddy has a 300 win mag and says the belt hangs on extractor loading and unloading making it about as fast to shoot as a muzzleloader ;D ;D. Anyway he wanted me to find out if this is an issue that can be fixed or just have to live with it.
Thanks,

This is the top reason, that I wouldn't think of a belted magnum rifle cartridge for the T/C Encore.

Some have similar problems with rebated rims like the 284 Winchester as well.

I have heard people bend it down, polish or adjust until it clears.

I shoot 223 Remington, 7mm-08 Remington, 243 Winchester and 454 Casull in my T/C Encore.
-I haven't had to bend, polish or adjust the extractor, all brass loads and unloads smoothly.

all ya have to do is file or stone the sharpe edge of the ejector. round it off. still pulls out brass and makes it easier to pull out brass. been there

Yep, it is an extractor, not an ejector. Along with rounding and polishing the ears, I shortened up the little flat spring that pushes it up. Removing isn't difficult with the barrel off the frame. One little pin to push out. Makes it easier to work on the ears anyway. I've had to do that to both a 25-06 and a .223 to keep from scratching the brass all up. Makes for easier loading too. Hope that helps!
