The buff was taken with the 454, right (if I remember correctly)?  What bullet, weight, and velocity?

Sverre,

I can only aspire to 99!  I've been to Africa once (so far)
and have taken 8 (including one jackel) with a TC Encore
in 338 Win Mag.  I loved hunting plains game with the Encore.

How many? None and I doubt that will ever change. I really have zero interest in the "African experience". I'd like to take some of the critters there but hate to have to go to Africa to do it. Honestly I'd rather do it in Texas.

Once long ago before the world situation got to where it is today it probably would have been enjoyable to me to make the trip to Africa but it just wasn't high enough on my list of things to do to make it happen then. With the world as it is today for me personally it's just not a thing I see happening.

I think it's great for those with the yearning for it tho and definitely think that if that's you it's best to get hopping on it before it's too late.

Graybeard:

For us - who are living in a part of the world where handgun hunting not is allowed  >:( - Africa is Mecca  :D!

Of course - we could travel to your part of the world - but it is a lot more difficult to get in to you with guns than into Africa.
And of course - huntingprices in Africa is much more reasonable.

7 days of hunting, 6 different species incl. the travel from Norway-Johannesburg-Port Elizabeth/return  = USD 3800,-.  The travel is about 50% of the cost  :'(

The time of travel is about the same.

I've been very lucky to have hunted Africa four times so far. I've got a total of 37 animals taken. I am trying hard to be able to make two more trips in my lifetime. Calibers used were .411JDJ, .475Linebaugh, and .41Magnum. I have never hunted Africa with a rifle. Might do that the next trip. Like Sverre A., I've taken animals from duiker to buffalo. I've never taken a roan, bongo, or nyala. I have made three trips to SA and one to Zim. I'd like to take the last two trips to different countries but haven't decided where yet.

The trips have actually been cheaper than guided trips to Alaska for brown bear and grizzley. The accomodations have been great and I believe I actually put on weight with the great food.

I`ve heard a lot of guys says that: Africa! Puhh!

But they have not been there  >:(

Riflehunters can have a lot of fun in all other countries - but handgun hunters - have not a lot of countries to choose between.

If I have shot at all animals I have had opportunity to in Africa - I`m sure that I almost could double my 99.

But in April - I will celebrate my no. 100  :D

And after 8 hours walking in hot bushes - a Castle beer (or three) taste like .....

Agree Joe  ;) :D?

Make no mistake I'm not trying to put down hunting in Africa. For those who desire it I think it's great and an experience they should have. I'm just saying that it's not really an experience I think I want for me. The African continent really isn't a place I want to be. I'm sure I'd enjoy hunting the animals were they available elsewhere like in Texas say.

I encourage all of you with the desire to go there heck if I were super rich I might do it or might not but as it stands today I don't see me ever leaving the US to hunt anywhere else.

I'm at 11 so far, not bad for one trip.  Nine more trips and I'm in the ball park Sverre.

I got my hands on some 200 grain Punch bullets for my .38-40 Bisley.  I'd try an elephant with that bullet and 28.0 grains of 296 behind it.

That's for sure and for certain. Heck, I just love chipped Impala on toast. The only other place I want to go is to do a cull and varmint hunt in the Ozzie outback.

Some are fortunate enough to hunt Africa and others are not, count me with the unfortunate souls who can't afford it.

I'm embarrassed to say that I live here and with handgun Sverre is waaay past my measly little numbers!  :-[

Rifle, well that's another story altogether. And still no dangerous game yet either.

My count would be 23 African animals and 15 of those were taken with a handgun.  Cartridges used:

357 Herrett (handgun)
375 H&H Magnum (rifle)
460 S&W Magnum (handgun)
