Yes ;D

The Handi and NEF are the same rifle. Handi is a kind of slang for all H&R (NEF) rifles. You can send all H&R (NEF) SB 2 rifles in for any barrel they make. SB 1 frames are limited on what barrels they will take. If you got a new 223, it is most likely a SB 2 frame. The differences are explained in the FAQ section at the top of this forum. Some times the special rifles ( Ultras and Varmint variations) are referred to as H&R rifles instead of NEF rifles. They are the same, the H&R handle designates special stocks or configuration. NEF usually refers to a regular Handi. But they are still the same frame and all of them can be sent in for extra barrels as long as the frame is a SB 2. The SB 1 are limited to what barrels it can be fitted with. Again refer to the FAQ section for your answers.

Welcome to GBO, you will find just about any question you have about the Handi rifles in the FAQ section at the top of this forum. I suggest you read the whole thing through. It is good reading and will give you lots of insight on your new purchase. If you have further questions, that is why we are here. Good fellowship and answering questions.

A good place to learn terminology would be the H&R website. Otherwise us old guys may confuse you. In reality they are all pretty much the same rifles wearing diffrent make up, SB1 and shotgun frames aren't as strong as the SB2 frame but parts will interchange between them... Not Barrels...

Well that aint 100% true..... You can put a lower press barrel on a high pressure frame but not the other way around.

Now are you thoroughly confused?  Good welcome to the handie world of Greybeards.

Welcome, I guess the guys pretty much answered your initial questions.  Stick around, and I'm sure this discussion will raise lots more of them.  I need, in honesty, to warn you, there is a serious disease here.  It's called Handiholicitis.  VERY contagious.  You'll have to have at least a dozen before you're partially cured.  Just a personal tip:  Start with the .30-30 and the .45-70, then you'll be truely infected, and you'll fit right in with the rest of us sickos!  Also, check the classifieds on this forum for barrels, frames and parts.  If you have a question, just shout it out and someone will help.  There are a lot of good people here.  As stated, be sure to read the FAQs and Handi Basics.  I've only about a year on the forum, and Tim, (Quickdtoo) and the rest of the guys really put me on track.  (I believe that track ends in Intensive Care).  Anyhow, welcome and enjoy your new rifle.    Pete
