No. 3 prices

A No. 3 in 30-40 on Gunbroker is bid up to $605.00 now. Has some scuffs on the wood. I would like to have a Krag caliber, but at that price it would need to be nearly perfect to suit me. What are they selling for elsewhere if you can find one?

I have noticed the decent 45-70's are going for $600+, so I bet that one goes up some more.  I was watching one in 44 Mag on Gunbroker not long ago that went close to $1000!

they have apparently been "discovered. about 6 years ago i bought two in 223 to use as custom platforms. one was $300 and the other was $350. those days are gone forever!!!!!!!!!

The $600 isn't out of the ordinary really.  Some chamberings will go more than others.

Then you might want to re-adjust your wants to something a tad more common.
If one goes that low, it won't by any means be perfect.

I have bought seven No. 3 carbines this year.  All were in excellent  (98%) condition and all were in the $600 range.  Normally the 44 Magnum is most expensive, followed by the .30-40 Krag and .375 Winchester. Next the .223  followed by the 22 Hornet and 45-70.  I would expect to pay about $700 for an excellent 30-40 or .375, $850-$900 for a .44,  and $600 for the others. Many simply price everything at $600.  That seems to be the going price.

I deleted my auction link, but I believe that rifle sold on gunbroker for $655.00. That would be plus shipping and transfer fee if you are not a FFL holder. I really like No. 3's, but at that level, I would rather have a No. 1. I personally have always fantasized that Ruger would make No. 3's again - particularly in .22 rimfire.

I guess I got lucky as I just bought one in 45/70 from the local pawn shop for $450. out the door. Looked as new and still had the box and paper work.No ruger rings,looks like it needs weavers or something for scope mounting

Have I missed something here? Are the #3's going equal or higher than the #1"s?

#1"s around here seem to be in the $500+- range depending on condition. I have a #3 in 30-40 Improved that has been restocked with #1 wood, and is in nice shape. I have been debating what to do with it, leave it alone, rebarrel to 22 Hornet or dump it to generate some cash.

It is strange with prices but they still make #1's so #3's are rarer collector wise plus dang good guns.When folks stop making a good gun prices go up right away most times. Look at the Win. mod70,only the pre 64's brought good money but when they went out of production they all went up alot.

I think the No. 1 generally brings a better price than the No. 3. I have both and I love the plain, simple, old fashioned look of the No. 3 with the straight stock, but the No. 1 is the better rifle IMHO.

I recently found a .22 Hornet for $375 for my buddy. ;D

I'd like to rebarrel mine to 30-30.
