I shot this deer yesterday afternoon. He entered the field I was watching about 200 yards down the treeline from me. I glassed him and had no trouble seeing the rack. I also noticed he had winded me, but due to the high winds swirling around had not located my position. I did not give him time to figure it out either. About 15 seconds later he was on the ground. I shot a 150 grain Nosler BT; the bullet entering just inside the left shoulder in the brisket and exited through the last rib on the right side. My .309 is zeroed for 200 yards and shooting off my backpack is very stable. He is the 60th Whitetail I have taken with this barrel.
I was by myself, having to clean and quarter him in the woods to get him out. I thought I was going to have a pack of coyotes in my lap before it was over with, but they stayed out of reach of my headlamp.
