Tikka Barrel Break-In

What's the recommended barrel break-in for Tikkas?  Clean and windex after every shot for the first ten, then every other for another ten?  Do you think they follow break in procedures when they're testing them at the factory?

I like to follow a very specific procedure. I like to clean then fire 2. Then I have my girlfriend dance around the shooting bench for luck while I run a patch or two through the barrel. Then I repeat five times. No part of my procedure does a thing for accuracy but I enjoy the show. j/k

I shot two rounds then ran a cleaning patch down the barrel.  Only fired a total of 11 rounds the first time at the range. It was hot that day so I had to wait 5 minutes between rounds to keep the barrel at a reasonable temp.  By the 11th round I was shooting a one inch group at 100 yards in the bullseye so I went home.

I always ask the manufacturer for barrel break in instructions and suggested cleaning solvents and those not to use.

Yep... having my girlfriend dance around the bench would really be a distraction... Actually dodging rounds from my wife trying to shoot me would be the distraction!!!

I honestly think that certain break in procedures "could" help.  However... my T3 shot under an inch with the second group fired from it.  Why mess with it?  I shoot it and then I clean it.  Never shot more that about 20 rounds through it at a time.  Some guys clean every round.  I clean when I come home.  Oh I guess if I were to shot a lot I'd run a patch down the barrel at the range but that's about it.

When my  GS  finished bedding and setting up a rifle he told me to take my new sako to the range and shoot it which I did. A friend took his Sako 300wm to the range & put 3 shots in the same hole at 100 yards. My GS had over 40 yrs experience and I never heard him make any comments on breaking  in rifles. In 1978 I met a National High Power Rifle Champion  who earned those titles in 1950 & 1951 .His 1903 Springfield had fired over 50,000 rounds in practice & competition and had 6 inches of rifling left near the muzzle.3 of us watched this senior citizen shoot a 100yd garand qualification match using 600 yard simulator targets,he put all of his shots in the 10 or 9 ring of the targets standing ,sitting and prone in rapid & slow fire his rifle was broken in like all military rifles are take them out and shoot them.

I currently own a T3 in 308 SS and a Sako 75 in 300 WSM. I have not used a brush in either gun and neither gun after the first 5 shots has fouled even remotely. I use wipeout foam after each shooting session even when new and now use Patchout which is made by the same company. I will never use a brush again at least with a Tikka or Sako
