Ruger LCP recall
« on: October 31, 2008, 07:22:08 AM »
Ruger announced a recall on their LCP.

Ruger® Issues Safety Warning And Recall Notice For LCP™ Pistol

Southport, Connecticut - Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE:RGR) announces that it has recently received a small number of reports from the field indicating that LCP pistols can discharge when dropped onto a hard surface with a round in the chamber. Although no injuries have been reported, we are firmly committed to safety and will retrofit all older LCP pistols (described below). The retrofit involves installation of an upgraded hammer mechanism at no charge to the customer.

As a responsible manufacturer, we want to make our customers aware of this FREE safety upgrade. All LCP pistols bearing the prefix "370" (that is, serial number 370-xxxxx) may be affected. LCP owners can sign up for the safety upgrade or obtain additional information by:

· Visiting our LCP recall website at www.ruger.com/lcprecall

Has anyone actually received a RAN to ship their LCP back to Ruger?  Some of the dealers I know are neverous about sending them back.  Some think Ruger may keep them and refund the purchase price becasue of the lawsuit with Keltech.  Anyone heard anything about this?

Think of it this way.  The Ruger LCP has some big problems.  Do you want a dependable gun to shoot or a collectors item?  If you want the former, you should send it in.

When the SR9 recall came about, it took nearly 3 months for my return package to arrive.  Once sent, I had it back in less than two weeks.  Not bad, I'd think, given all the work that's surely in queue.  I'd expect a similar delay in receiving LCP return packages, and a similarly quick return time.

Is there a lawsuit with Kel-Tec?  I've heard many people predict that there would be one, but I've not seen mention of an actual suit.
