something different concerning 44 mag brass

a buddy recently purchased a mixed bag of brass at a gun shop.  While sorting the brass I found three pieces of 44 mag brass that will not fit in a 44 mag shell holder.  Circumferences is too wide.. the brass is stamped 44 W and M R P..brass has a bullet crimp groove rolled on.  Never seen that before!

Without seeing some case numbers ( specs ) , it sounds like a couple 44-40 cases got tossed in by mistake .

you are correct..when I finally thought to mike them..they are 44-40's.  good detective work!
