end of season cleaning
« on: December 02, 2008, 09:31:41 AM »
Just got done with my handi 4570 for the season (no deer yet, Im breaking out the sidekick) and what do you guys do with regard to the action.  I have cleaned the bore and oiled her up on the outside, but I was wondering what to do with the insides.  I hunting in the rain and snow and I have seen how quickly that turns to rust on the outside and am concerned about the trigger assembly.  Is there anything I can do like spray in some rem oil etc?  I REALLY dont feel like taking her all apart.

Unless they have gottin gritty somehow I just wipe mine down with Rem oil or the like.  The way my action pins are lubed when I do trigger jobs really takes care of them, Oils would probably cause more problem than not, Like attracting dust and lint. Works for me anyway. :D

I've used a good douche of WD40 to get rid of any moisture that gets inside the trigger and hammer group, and trust me, if you're hunting in rain/wet snow, it will get inside the frame, but it can stay wet and gets on the latch and latch shelf for a while if you're gonna shoot it anytime soon,  then use a dri-lube cleaner like Hornady One Shot to spray it out good, after that dries make sure the latch and latch shelf are clean and dry before shooting it.  ;) Don't forget the firing pin too.  :o
