I have had 7mm and 8 mm Mausers (short barrel 7, long barrel 8mm), and I now have a surplus 03A3.  Love them all, great guns as long as they were used well or refurbished/rebuilt correctly.  I have hunted deer, elk, pronghorn, javelina, etc with them all and they never failed me in any way.  I got rid of the Mausers as my dad gave me his Remington 742, and I wanted one caliber for my daughter and myself to hunt with.  Looking for a decently priced 45 colt lever action for denser cover, though, to go with my 45 colt pistol.

Another Mosin-Nagant hunter here.
somewhere on this forum is some pics of me, my M-44 and the hog i shot.
the safety feature is kinda problematic on these though. some people weld a ring to the cocking piece to make it easier to use, and there are a few more ideas out there.
i usually carry mine with an empty chamber when in the field

Picked up a sporterized .303 No.4 Enfield at an auction on Saturday.  Looks like an old sporterization, no import mark, pretty nice job.

Eventually will refinish the stock.  May or may not get it out this season.  Tough to find time to sight in and get ready with everything else.

I don't have too much trouble with Mosin safeties, but I do like the idea of carrying without a round in the chamber. My only problem is that I'd forget to load a round......click.....dang!   :D

I conducted garand qualification matches for our gun club from 1980 thru 1986 and one of the members told me he used his garand to successfully hunt mule deer in colorado.I read the March 1986 issue of the American Rifleman article Reloading For The M1 Rifle and used that data to load  match ammo using Hornaday 150gr FMJ BT bullets ,IMR 4895,CCI LR Primer in Denver '42 & '43 Mil brass and for  hunting ammo I used a 165gr Nosler  Ballistic Tip,47.5gr of IMR 4895,a CCI LR Primer in Mil surplus  Den '42 & '43 Brass,dropped my group down to about 2 1/2 inches .I hunted in CO & shot a mule deer buck .  If anyone wants a copy of that article send me your email address and I'll email you a copy.

killed my 8 pointer with my Husqvarna Model 1938 Swede 6.5 x55mm.
