Extra Wide Boots Needed
« on: February 22, 2009, 12:01:46 PM »
Who makes extra wide hunting boots.  Last I bought were Rocky Bearclaw in 10EW, but I have problem getting my foot into these.  Have to use thin socks.  I'd like a quality made waterproof, warm boot in 10EEE.  My wife bought me some nice dress shoes in EEE and they are the most comfortable shoes I own (except I never dress up).

Cabela's offers some of their boots in extra wide widths. I try to buy EEEE when I can find them but find I can live with EE if I wear thin socks. Still the more Es the better for my fat foot. There is a shoe company I used to get a catalog from that specializes in extra wide sizes. I've forgotten the name but they mostly had shoes and back then at least their boots were quite limited. You might try searching for them via google.

For me Cabela's is the best source for wide boots.

I wear 13 EEEE so it's not easy to find shoes. If you are willing to pay for best quality boots that will last for years and are custom fitted to your foot, Russell Moccasins in Wisconsin. My first pair I bought in 83 and I hunted a lot then and did miles of walking following deer and rabbit dogs. I ordered my second pair 2 years ago and expect to wear them the rest of my life. They run from 200 to 400 but I believe they are a bargain compared to 150 dollar boots that last 4 years. Plus they are made in America.

My shoe size is a 13 EEE. I know the problem. I've found the MUCK Boots in a 16" camo hunting boots work best for me. My feet have never been cold in them. My biggest problem with any hunting boot for me was trying to get them on and off. These MUCK Boots don't give me any problems at all. They slide right on then come right off with ease. And I don't need the wife to pull them off for me. They are a very comfortable boot for hunting.

I feel your pain. I takes me a long time to find boots that work. I take a 9 4e. For casual wear I usually shop for Dunham boots, they are the boot and leather shoe section of New Balance that specializes in wide sizes. I have some Dunham slip on wellington styles that I got from Sierra Trader that have been pretty good for pull on run-to-town or work around the yard boots. I wear them a lot and have worn out their water proofness in about 9 months. I got a pair of Dunham lace up light work boots from the same place but they are more like a high top tennis shoe and not as water proof as the advertisement says.  For serious work boots and hunting boots you might try Wolverine brand.  They offer 3E and 4E widths. I really like the durashock soles for being on your feet all day. For serious cold weather boots (down to -10 or -15 and active), some of the best I've found were some Lacrosse 1000 or 1200 gram Wide boots. The fit well and I have been very pleased how warm and dry I've stayed.  But I can't find the same model any more. These are my main winter boot unless I'm going on a serious cold weather hunt that might see -20 or colder - then its some ancient white "Bunny Boots".  I can't recall where I got the Lacrosses - a store in Anchorage I believe.  I have a pair of 1000 gram Wolverines that have been pretty good in cold weather but the soles cracked deeply. Still stay dry and warm but I don't trust them like the Lacrosses for serious work. I got the Wolverines from Cabelas.  I am pleased that Cabela's has increased their offerings of 4E or extra wide foot wear but not all of them appeal to me and I've tried a few that I had to send back that really didn't fit my foot.  Sierra Traders has a good search system for the size of shoe / boot you need.  I have also bought from Zappos, and Brown's New Balance ( do a google search for these). You might look for a specialty Red Wing store as they claim they make some 4E boots. I have an ancient pair of 3E boots that won't wear out and work well for me.  HTH and Good Luck
