charter arms revolver quality
« on: September 08, 2008, 04:18:49 PM »
I bought 2 charter arms revolvers.  a 22 mag which had to have the cylinders brushed before it would eject cartridges, and a 357 4 inch bulldog which the trigger guard came loose and even worse the barrel came loose and would not line up with the cylinders. If I screwed it in tight it was askew and I would not fire it in that position.   Too bad the most comfortable revolvers to handle are the poorest quality ie Taurus and charter arms.

I would keep trying. They can't fix what they don't know is broken. Being one of their guns, their customer service or their workmanship. Being a business owner, I have a large "comment" box by my front door. The sign above it reads..."If we do a great job, it would be nice to know about it. If we do a poor job, we HAVE to know about it." I think the difference between the average company and a great company is how it welcomes, and handles, it's negative comments. Give them the chance to fix their problem...if they don't, shame on them and their business will suffer.

The barrel needs to be set back a turn or better yet, replaced. It IS a factory defect.

one old statement applys to guns about more then anywhere else. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! You are relying on a 200 dollar piece of crap weapon to protect yourself and your family. I hear all the time that its all i can afford. but then you look in a guys yard and theres a motorcyle a boat a car and a truck a fancy riding lawnmower ect. If you have to buck up and buy one really good gun make it the one you protect your life with. Id much rather hunt deer with a cheap savage bolt or a used marlin 3030 instead of a high dollar bolt with a high dollar scope then to cut corners on a gun my familys safety may depend.

I did call them back and talked to a nice live person who gave me instructions on returning it to the company which I did. Been 2 weeks and I'm anxiously waiting for it back.

FYI: Per my conversation (concerning a return I had made) with the owner of Charter Arms (Nick Ekers) last Summer, Charter's target for warranty service turn-around is 20 days in house - but they sometimes run over due to parts availability, etc. (all parts are not available at all times)

The argument you just made is also one that has been heard so much it is almost taken for the gospel. I own a S&W 36, Taurus 85, Charter Undercover. The Smith is about the slickest revolver i have ever used. The Taurus is certainly a fine looking piece, with a trigger even better than the Smith. The Undercover stainless doesn't have the spit and polish of the other two. But after many rounds thru each, not one failure from any of them. My wife claims the Taurus because it is "so cute". My grandson keeps the Smith handy in his room because it is "a Smith & Wesson". That leaves me with the Charter. Right now it is riding inside my belt on a set of Barami Grips. And I know if I ever have to draw it the Charter will work perfectly. Price is the LEAST perfect way to judge a gun imo.
