Why a 2-piece/1-piece locking lug?

Can someone "splain" why TC had a 1-piece lug on some Contender barrels and a 2-piece lug on others?  They seem to interchange nicely because I installed a 1-piece lug onto a 2-piece barrel that some "Bubba" had ground down to make it open easier.  What was the logic behind this difference in locking lugs?

1 piece are the original product, the two piece is an up grade.

So what does it "upgrade" or accomplish?  It would seem to me that a one piece lug would be stronger than a 2 piece lug.?

A 2 piece lug makes the many barrels interchange easyer to open.

When TC went to the 'easy open frame' they started using two piece bolts. Make them easier to open by opening one half of the bolt slightly sooner than the other.

The original barrels all had one piece bolts. To get them to work correctly on newer frames you needed to get the two piece other wise you had to drive out the pivot pin to get the gun open.

The bolts were/are not the weakest link, one piece or two.
