Some good news for South Carolinians
« on: November 17, 2008, 02:01:51 PM »
“Second Amendment” Sales Tax Holiday is Nov. 28 – 29

South Carolina will waive the state’s sales and use tax on purchases of handguns, rifles and shotguns during the first annual Second Amendment Sales Tax Holiday Nov. 28 – 29.

The 48-hour tax break on firearm purchases begins at 12:01 a.m. Nov. 28 and continues through midnight Nov. 29. The tax exemption also applies to any local sales and use tax.

The tax break does not apply to accessories such as ammunition, black powder, holsters, archery supplies and similar items. It also does not apply to the sale of antique or collectible handguns or handguns that do not fire a fixed cartridge.

The South Carolina Department of Revenue has posted a list of exempt and non-exempt items and answers to some of the most frequently asked questions at its website, www.sctax.org, under the “What’s New” section.

If more states would adopt this way of thinking maybe it would send a very clear measage to our elected officials.

You gotta love the south!

That is a great thing that if adopted in other states, would definitely send a "message" to lawmakers.....of course, that's what they don't want to hear!
A government big enough to give you everything you want is strong enough to take everything you have. -Thomas Jefferson

You know it just makes good sense to do something like this. We have a tax free weekend for back to school shopping.People eat it up because of all the savings plus it helps stimulate the economy. Do the samething for guns after Thanksgiving and more people will buy for their kids and grand kids. Before hunting season and Christmas is the biggest rise in gun sales during the year. Maybe we should all pass this idea around to the local dealers.
