Hmmm. Most of the leather handles I've had in hand weren't slippery at all, even wet. Maybe yours was oiled or greased. You don't say what type of Kabar it is. On some of the really old ones, the pommel(butt) was simply screwed onto the back of the threaded tang. Easy enough to do these. Just unscrew the pommel, remove the leather washers, and replace with a block of material that has been drilled through and will fit on the tang. You have to shape it yourself though. Then screw the butt back on. If it's like the two old leather handled Kabars I have, I can't tell if the pommel is screw on(It doesn't look like it) or held in place by a pin(can't see the pins though since they were "smeared" by the shaping process). In that case, you might go online and look for those individuals who make their money re-doing standard knives...I've no idea how to do one of these that might not ruin it.
