ive heard of men who walk on the other side of there horses untill there quite close to elk,then shoot the with compound bows or crossbows,this would be a legal practise because its legal to hunt from horseback,but do yall think it would work ;D

I don't know why it would be illegal. If you plan on doing it, maybe call your state wildlife dept. and ask them.

I'm not sure if this plan would work, any time elk see our horses they are hauling a$$, but then they are Nevada elk.

why sneak up behind yer horse.  Jest sit on it and walk the horese within bow distance.  As long as the elk don't smell ya - he just think your a funny looking horse.

Or jes find some yellerstone elk on migration and hold up a camera. They pose real nice til ya shoot em.

I watched this method used this past weekend for bowhunters hunting pronghorn in Wyoming on the Sports Channel.
