area to hunt youth season
« on: October 28, 2008, 03:22:12 PM »

I am looking for a place to take my 11 year old daughter for the youth hunt next weekend. Last year I took her to the Fourche Creek CA and all she saw was a doe and the area is bucks only. She is trying to take her first deer and a doe would be fine with her. She just past her hunter education course and is a pretty good shot. (she has no problem knocking over a empty 12 ga hull at 30 yards on a regular basis). Any suggestions in the Ripley/Carter county area? If any of you folks have too many does or small bucks on your place we would be happy to help you out and even share some meat.

A lot of SEMO is like that from what I hear.  I'm just south-west of St. Louis, so deer are thick as flies around here.  We whacked 'em and stacked 'em last year, and are seeing more deer than ever.

Had to pass on a doe, got too close too fast and then ran off, then missed a small buck at about 100 yards, tried to hurry her shot because she was afraid it would run off like the doe did. Poor girl was almost in tears.

Well that'll only make it that much sweeter when she finally does connect.  Better luck next time.  :)

If it isn't too cold, get her out for the second Youth Hunt in January.

Best of Luck!
