Fast Twist .22 Calibers- How do you like YOURS?????
« on: June 17, 2009, 12:21:35 PM »
;)In looking over past threads in Wildcats, I saw where several guys were building or had build fast twist 22 varmiters. After shooting them, how do you like them??? Also, I had a 22-250 AI with a 1-8 Twist. The barrel is almost new. I was thinking of putting it back in use. How does it compare with the bigger cases? I have lots of AI brass. But I also have a set of .22 Cheetah dies from a past project. What have you guys found you like or dislike about the fast twist .22's???? What seems to be the best case capacity for this caliber???? ;)

A web search for the .224 TTH (Texas Trophy Hunter) should answer all of your questions.

You have probly seen some of my post on the .22-6mm also known as the .224 TTH. I love it and it seem to be a fack driver with both the Sierra and Berger 80 gr. bullets, but I think the Sierrs do alittle better past 400 yrds., but want to do a side by side to make sure. You won`t get the veloicity I get with the 6mm case, but that just mean you`ll have to give your scope a couple more clicks. Your 250 AI should make a good long range coyote gun.

:D Catfish,  I was hoping you would respond to this thread. I read your info. with great interest. Since I have the new .22-250 AI fast twist barrel, dies and cases, it will probably be my choice when I make up the rifle. How do the Serria bullets open up on coyotes and varmits????? I shot a few match grade 100 grain in my .25-06. They drilled through jacks and didn't provide the instant kills I wanted so I never tried them on coyotes. I have heard the Bergers open up, bought some 90 Berger on a recent trip, that got me interested in this project again. But in the back of my mind was the Serria's and how they would expand on critters. Thanks for the reply. ;) :D :)

I`ve not killed alot of coyotes with it yet, but those that I did all had great big exit wounds. I think that all bullets were moveing around 3,125 when they left the muzzle and the longest kill so far was only 314 yrds.

So, far I like my .22-250 1-8 28 inch bull.  During my prairie dog trip back in May I tried to get one at 1000 yards.  Came within an inch or two a few different times, but never did connect.  Next time!

Oh, and I was using 75 grain A-maxes at 3150 fps.

jk, I tried the 75 grain amax when I had the barrel on another action. The AI destroyed these bullets :D Wome would not reach the 100 yard target with out being torn apart. I am going to give them another go, if and when I put the barrel back on an action. ;)

Wyo. Coyote Hunter. Were you useing the A-Max. or the the 75 gr. HP target Bullet??? I had that problem with the HP`s but thought that the A Max. were a tougher bullet. If they were indeed the A-Max I`ll forget about tring them.

Catfish, They were 75 grain A Max. I was surprised at the performance. But I was told they were for the 223 vel. Hope this helps. I could have just had a bad batch. :-\
