Westley Richards Martini 45/70

At 6 1/2 lbs.  a favorite walking around rifle.  My usual load is 300 gr. fpgc at 1800 fps.  accurate and not unpleasant to fire.

Fully engraved action and lever, 3 leaf rear sight with V leaves and hooded bead front.  Marked Westley Richards - London & 45  2.1"  Around 1966 or 67 I saw it at a gun show and traded a contender with a .357 and .44 octagon barrels for it.  One of my better trades, that early contender with the squaresh grip and light barrels was the worst kicking gun I ever shot.

On the action is Westley Richards- London
On the barrel is .45-2.1"
Nothing else.
I had a beautiful rifle that collectors said was a Rigby, was a bolt action takedown.
Looked just like pics of Rigbys but didn't say Rigby anywhere on it so I just have to think it's a WR.

WR is still around,You can call or e-mail them and for a few buck get a letter stateing how your gun left the factory and maybe who it was built for.Great guns great history and I will agree a wonderful trade indeed.Also you might find this site helpfull.

I don't think the barrel work is WR original.  The Caliber markings are not British., .45,  2.1 being distinctly American  Also British rifles will bear proof marks and the companies name on the barrel, especially if it's Westley Richard.  Besides WR had their own full set of properietary cartridges, most superior to the 45/70, which is also an American cartridge.

Doesn't realy mean anything as this rifle is beautiful.  I have a similar action, marked I.Hollis that I am going to build in .450 Musket No. 2.

Used to shoot a Hollis hammer gun for years at sporting,good guns.The site I listed above may be able to tell you who did the custom work.Sometimes a little stamp under a grip cap or someplace can turn a nice gun into one worth thousands.
