hornady ftp
« on: December 07, 2008, 09:06:50 AM »
Shot a doe yesterday with 100 grains Jim Shocky Gold and Hornady FTP.  About 60 yards.  I gotta say even though it was a close shot I'm really empressed with the amount of damage this bullet does.  Though I would'nt shoot beyond 100 yds. with my gun, T.C. Omega, because of looser groups than I like.  I give it a thumbs up on performance.

Congratulations on the doe! Did you mean the Hornady FPB? I have those loaded in my rifle over 80 grains of BH209. Very accurate load.

Did you get a pass through or did the bullet stop in the animal? Can you explain or show pics of the wound channel? Just curious, as I have not shot an animal with one yet.

Yeah, I meant FPB.  Must of been brain gas.  I don't have any pictures.  The bullet went thru left side rib and exited, and smashed thru, the right side shoulder.  Left very big exit hole.  Probably around 130 lb. deer.  On another note.  My son took similar sized doe yesterday with CVA Wolf.  First deer with this gun.  Also 100 grains Jim Shockey Gold and 365 grain maxi ball.  It devastated the Liver.  Deer went about 250 yards.  Between time of shot and deer recovery 45 minutes.  It probably only lived a few minutes after shot.  But we gave it time as not noing exact shot placement.  When we got to the deer a coyote had started to chew on it already!  They're pretty thick here in Illinois.  What is the difference between the Maxi Ball and the Maxi Hunter bullet.  The Maxi balls group very well out of my TC Omega, but I prefer an expanding bullet.

Maxi-Balls.

Maxi-Hunters.

I don't care for either of those bullets. If you want some very good conicals, get some No Excuses or Bullshop.
