I let the smoke out of the old Thompson Center
« on: November 22, 2008, 07:29:22 AM »
I watched this deer a few time's throughout the day on Friday..Seen him early in the morning..then again about mid morning ..then again at the end of the day... He was hanging around my food plot..Bedded I think around there. But I was afraid to take a 140 + yard shot... I get buck fever terrible...even on 100 pound doe's...lol.. But at least I know I have it... But anyway I was also worried about that first shot impact point...Without a fouling shot. So Thursday night I followed the instruction's from the tech at 777. I cleaned the borebutter out good with Windex with vinegar.and a few dry patches..then fired 4 primers through it...Loaded it up and put a finger cot over the muzzle....And hoped for the best. Anyway the scenario came together..at about 4:00 I looked out the window of my shack..And there he was working a big rub..But not clear to shoot yet..then he moved away..and worked his way to the food plot...But there were some corn stalks in the way...Then The BIGGEST DEER I have ever seen entered the food plot 40 further away..And started posturing...SO COOL  FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!!! then I turned the can ofer..My deer stopped right there and looked..The big guy kept his ears back and side walikgn towards mine... There is no doubt in my mind that I am so worked up I would never even think about the big guy...So the 8pt started bacg to fight ..I tipped the can acain..he stopped in the clear.(ranged him) 123 yds..I was about to hyper-ventilate..The scope was moving up and down with every heart beat...I took a deep breath end squeesed...SMOKE!!! When I could see..I seen the deer running off with his tail in the air Like a clear miss. I composed myself..(shaking like a leaf) Went over and looked for blood...(none)...Then my wife said"He was standing over here"...So I went over there and found blood..COOL..and followed the blood. It kept getting better...About 75 yds later  we found him lying in the worst ravine you could imagine! waited for help..Tagged him and dragged him up and out. Double lung @123yds..What a feeling. He isnt a monster. But I am sure proud. Now I am looking for the Big guy..LOL( I think I shall name him Heart attack..lol) I will post the picks in some following post's

Nice deer.  Seems like I get the shakes afterward.  Even after 45 years of deer hunting.  Congrats!

My wife claims she was as cool as a cucumber...I couldn't detect anything..... But she HAD to be feeling something....she shouldered her gun and let it down 3 or 4 time's...She was about to cause me to have heart failure....She asked me what to do..I told her she could let him walk...and tell people..or shoot her first deer... I truly did let her make the decision...She hit him through the left shoulder through the chest cavity and out the Right armpit..Slightly quartering to ward's she is a "Happy Hunter" this morning...Were headed to the locker plant in awhile. Enough ground venison for the next year...Only trophy hunting for the rest of the season....But then again To us  "They are all Trophies" and the memories will last forever. It sure is nice to have place's like this to share... I frequent this site more than any other I hurry to get on line and check and see who has posted . I think I have found a great place to listen learn and share..For this Mr. Graybeard and Team... I Thank You!  Drop

Just got done taking picture's of my son's nubby buck....shot from the other window of the "Rack Shack". I think this thing is gonna be more popular than the local "Best Western" lol...I am so tickled about this thing...My son poked a little fun about it...However tonight was the first time he hunted it..Took my grandson..And they had there first hunt together..And it was successful...My grand son is HOOKED! This is whay I built it..my family...3 days and 3 deer... I will post his pic's soon... His best deer ever is a 163 inch 13 pt...But he will remember this one longer..since my grandson was the one who spotted it first..What a wonderful moment together they shared. Drop
