i could be wrong but the only marlins ive seen with the gold triggers (brass) was on the "centennial" models with the medallion in the stock. it was just a special one year run to celebrate marlins 100th anniversary. i have 3 marlins and 2 of them are 336 centennials.

Rbrgum95, they put them on more than just Centennial models.  I just checked my supply of Marlins.  My half-magazine SC 35 has a "gold" trigger, as does my mid-'60's vintage RC straight-grip model.  So does the 45-70 that I bought in 1982.  My later, dorky- lawyer-safety model 30-30 has the black trigger.  IMO,  Marlin could save on production costs by skipping tacky features like "gold" triggers, fat forends, and checkering on leverguns.  There's a certain nostalgia attached to leverguns, and Madison-Avenue cosmetic features don't add to it. Guns like Grandpa used had plain and simple class, with great handling characteristics and plenty of whomp for any North American game.

The "gold" trigger was a standard feature in days gone by.  Besides looking different from other firearms, the idea was to keep them from rusting from the sweat of people's fingers.  Whether it's that people forget to wipe down the trigger when they clean their gus, that the trigger guard makes it harder to clean the trigger, or some other cause, the trigger is one of the first parts of a gun to develop surface rust.

My "cheapie" 30AW has a gold colored trigger (and walnut stock and forearm).

Winterhawk, this finger rust thing must be a concept that was fairly unique to Marlin.  Pretty much most other guns have black/blued triggers, and have had for years.  Even really old Marlins.  They must have cured their problem, though, because it looks like they are back to black now. I still think it was a Madison Avenue marketing ploy, by advertising city-bred folk with tacky tastes.  ;D ::)

I'm not for sure on this subject but maybe try this book on their history....it's supposed to have tons of info. I've been wanting to buy one myself but haven't taken the time to order one yet.

Currently Marlin still offers the gold plated trigger on the 336W model.

Lloyd, that's a matter of opinion....I like the look with the gold trigger on my Marlins

I just got a Marlin 336 in 35 Remington said to be made in the "mid 60"s". The gun is on it's way here now and I haven't handled it yet but the pictures show it's trigger is not gold plated. It of course is an RC model. When did Marlin start plating the triggers gold?

Rick,
I don't really know but I have two 336RC's, a '61 in.35Rem & a '69 in .30-30, and both have a gold trigger. I also have a '57 Mountie with a gold trigger.

Guys,

Wasn't the gold trigger just like the bullseye?  Wasn't it just a sales gimmick so you could pick it out from a distance on a gun rack from all the other brands?  That is what I always thought.

Seems to be no rime or reason as to which models get the gold trigger? I just bought a 1982 Original Golden 39A, you would think it would have a gold trigger but does not. OK by me ;)
