Can anyone tell me what is the name of the wildcat resulting from necking the 357 Mag into a 22 cal? This would be an alternative to the 256 Win Mag in the Marlin 62 actions. Possibly of use in the Contender as well. Good luck. POW

The .22 Remington Jet was based on the .357 Magnum necked down to .22 caliber. It gave about .22 WRM ballistics in a revolver. Facotry chambered in the S&W M48, but lots of users complained of case set-back on the recoil shield, and locked up revolvers.

The .22 Improved Jet was made by firing .22 Jet in a reamed-out or "Improved" chamber, with near-straight sided case, sharp shoulder and one-caliber neck. It gave slightly better ballistics than the standard .22 Jet, but less tendency to lockup the S&W revolver it was chambered for.

As far as I know, only the S&W M48 K-frame revolver, the Thompson-Center Contender, and a few custom rifles and single shot pistols have ever been made for these rounds.

The .22 Jet was also chambered in the H&R Topper.

PS- never had any setback problems with my Smith M48 but cleaned the chambers with alcohol, but the BLAST... right up there with GI hardball in a 30 carbine Blackhawk. That combo never worked as well as the original 22 Kay Chuk and Kay Chuk Jr; shortened K Hornet and shortened Hornet.

Very similar. Will have to research to be sure of the differences. There is also the 22 Sabre Cat and ...

Seems like I remember the 22 Jet as being a long neck cartdige or bottleneck. Is there a 22 cal wildcat based on the 357Mag or 256Win that is sharp shouldered with greater capacity? Good luck. POW

Yep,

The .22 Jet is that l-o-n-g necked sucker that bareley has a straight body, and NO neck!

The .22 Improved Jet was made by firing the .22 Jet in an Improved Chamber, turning the cartridge into a straight bottlenecked case.

iIt indeed resembles the .256 Winchester magnum.
