primer adapter for side hammers

Years ago I had an adapter that used a small pistol primer in place of the standard nipple on my Hawken. Do these still exists? Seems like Dixie used to carry them at one time. Wish I knew where mine walked off to.

Don't know if they are still made. I had one years ago and found it a real PITA which accomplished absolutely nothing that a simple #11 percussion cap couldn't do at least as well. That's probably why they are scarce.

coyojoe is right, there really is no need to use any kind of modern centerfire nipple/primer on any side lock style rifle. If the shooter simply does his part to be sure the rifle and lock components are clean and in good working condition the common nipple and cap configuration works very well.
 Please keep in mind if "poor quality" components are used expect poor results. It's really up to the end user. The archives here are full of tonnes of info, just spend a little time reading. luck too ya, Forest:)

Thanks for the feedback guys! I never had an occasion to need mine, it was an issue of wanting one and not really needing one. Just seemed like a real novel thingamajingy thing to try. I just keep the powder dry and the caps hot.

You might also consider a musket nipple conversion.  That is what I use for replica powder.
