Change #11 to 209 primers
« on: November 24, 2008, 02:20:35 AM »
I have the old style Huntsmans, screw in breech plug. All my loads have been worked up using #11 caps. I made a breech plug to handle 209 primers, should I expect a significant change in point of impact?  Any other cautions, I should know about?

I would say yes, I get POI changes from just switching brands of 209 primers on some loads. I seen your plug in the other thread, looks good. Are you headspacing off the rim or the front of the 209?

Headspacing off the rim. Its not real critical like a centerfire rifle.

Agree, but headspacing the 209 off the rim like my Hubbards 209 plug will give you considerable blowback unless you really get her tight. Headspacing off the front of the primer will help to seal out blowback. Let us know how it works for you.
