Is this possible?????
« on: December 03, 2008, 08:10:18 PM »
OK lets see if I can get this out without sounding like a total idiot.... I am fixated on having a 38-55 lever gun and I have looked on gunbroker and other sites and have seen some for some pretty high prices.. So I was wondering if it is possible to take a 336 in .30-30 and have the chamber re-cut to take a 38-55 cartridge? I have a very old Winchester and do not want to mess with that gun but I have seen some fairly inexpensive 30-30's and was wondering if this is possible or am I just going to have to bite the bullet and dig deep? Thanks for your input.. I knew that you guys could help..

PS: Do U have a person or place that U would recommend for the work as well???

you would need a rebore or rebarrel. Check out Marlinowners. There is a guy who routinely performs that work.

It's an EZ, and fairly common conversion - needing only a simple rebore/rerifling (much cheaper than rebarreling).

The least expensive reborer, with a rep for decent work, is Jes Ocumpaugh, of Cottage Grove, OR  - tel (541) 942-1342.

Jesse charges $225 + S&H, paid in advance, with a 6-wk turn-around - by appointment only (call for appt, to send in gun).
