.280 BAR

I have been looking for a used Browning BAR and have found a .280 for what looks to be a fair price.  My heart was set on a .30-06 but I may buy this one.  If any of you have had a BAR in .280, how did you like it?  Also, is there any practical difference between a BAR and a BAR MKII?

 There is a site,  midwestgunworks.com that works on brownings & has parts & info, maybe helpful on some differences?

 When it comes to semi-autos I'm a short-action guy. I have BARs in 308 & 243. When it comes to a semi auto hunting rifle a BAR is right at the top for choices.

How do you like your .308?  I just found what looks like a good deal on one.  Like I said I wanted an '06 but the .308 should be close enough to make me happy.

 I really don't want to air my problems in public. By that I mean I have/buy more guns than I need or use. I am completely content hunting with my 1st rifle, a Mod 70 308, or A-Bolt 308. My BAR 308 Stalker is a few years old but NIB(NI Safe). I also bought a 243 BAR with a damaged stock at 1/2 price, fixed it up & there it sits. At least I put a scope on the 243. We have 2 sons that have some interest so I may pass some stuff their way once I see where the're going,(meaning trajectory in life). Don't worry, the wife will never see this.

Well, I ended up picking up a BAR MkII Safari .270 with a Leupold 3-9 by 50mm Vari-X II.  The rifle was a good price and the scope was a bonus.  I fired it a couple times and it is dead on the money.  If there is any recoil I didn't notice it.  Next weekend I'll take it to the range and see how well it really shoots but for now I am really impressed.
