38/55 BP loads
« on: January 14, 2004, 03:52:53 PM »
Hey pards,
need come info on loading a 38/55 cartridge with BP for a Winchester 94. Has anybody found a good starting point. I'm thinking around 44-46 grains. Any help would be appreciated.

Hey Kid

Given that we want absolutely no airspace in any BP loaded cartridge, take the shell and dip it full, if using Goex compress enough to get the bullet in, if using Swiss pour out enough to get the bullet in without much compression but a full case.  That's your starting load.  If you want more velocity then drop tube and compress more, but don't reduce the load unless you want to play with fillers.  From what I've read it's probably not worth it.
