Need opinion based on actual experience

What I currenly use:

Pyrodex pellets.  I only have to clean every 5th shot to maintain my desired accuracy.  The gun is very accurate, before I took the scope off it would do 5 shot groups with the shots touch a 50 yards without cleaning.  The gun is not that hard to clean after a shooting session.

Only drawback is that I am tired of my hands stinking for 2 days after shooting.  I know the Triple Seven Pellets will eliminate this.  However will my accuracy be as good and hold up for 5 shots and will the POI be somewhat the same for the Triple 7 Pellets versus the Pyrodex pellets?

I know all guns are different and what works for one might not work for another, but has anyone made this change and what were the results.

Some rifles go 20 shots before cleaning 777 -- some get gunked-up/nipple-clogged only after a few. Some rifles get a crud ring around 3-4" in front of the breechplug... some don't. 777 cleans easier, it doesn't smell and it should produce groups very close to your Pyrodex pellets because 777 pellets were downsized after they initially came out to fall in line with Pyrodex pellets to prevent dangerous mixups with new rifle owners manuals.

If you are shooting a #11 cap side-hammer, then stick with Pyrodex pellets because as-of-yet... 777 does not have spark enchancers at the bottom base of their pellets like Pyrodex does.  It's intended for modern in-line firearms with musket caps and 209 primers. The loose FF--FFF powder can be used in all rifles & pistols. The jury is still out (I haven't read) on 777 pellets in #11 capped in-lines. Maybe I'll start a thread asking about 777 pellet effectiveness in those rifles (or) if someone reading this who shoots 11s with 777 pellets can comment on that.

HI Bullseye:  Ditto on the lingering odor you hands have after cleaning BP fire arms. I use a mixture of 2parts hydrogenperoxide(standard first aid strength) 2parts rubbing alcohol and 1 part Murphys Oil Soap.  This stuff foams and dissolves the black gunk from your skin creases and using an old tooth brush will clean your nails baby new. Pour some in your cupped hand and rub'm together like with any soap, use the brush if you need to, and let the stuff foam-up. DO NOT RINSE with water. Use a towel and just dry'm off throughly. They'll not only be clean but smell good too.

Thanks for the info guys.  I bought some 777 before I read about Log Eye's secret potion.  Hope it shoots okay, I will find out this weekend.

I shot 777 pellets with #11 caps this past weekend.  I think I had a delayed ignition a couple of times.  I heard a crack then boom, where when I used the 777 powder I heard just the boom from the primary ignition.  I thought, until I read this page, that my nipple might have been blocked and was delaying the ignition slightly.  I will shoot it again this weekend and try to verify the delay.  I have 777 in both forms.  I am shooting a Knight T-Bolt rifle.  Ken
