«

I'm looking for a rifle cartridge for deer hunting, which of the two is the best choice, reloading , recoil ect.
I already have pistol cartridge( 454 casull) and a muzzle loading barrel is pistol length now I just need a rifle. Thanks.

Either will work well. It is more what would you like.

I've used both and they're both fine. Recoil in both is about the same. You could also consider a 30/06.
Advantages with the 308 & 30/06 is a greater variety of .308 diameter bullets than .270 diameter bullets. Also, for the 308 & 30/06 you can get relatively cheap military brass.

If the flatest trajectory is an important consideration the 270 wins. Otherwise it makes no difference which you pick

308!
So much information if you're a reloader, works great in a handgun barrel. All the homework is done for you. Besides, it will shoot accurately further than most folks can hold'er steady!

Iv'e never used a 308 but I'm sure it would work fine. I've used a 270 for over 40 years and have never had a problem if I do my part.

I have the 30 06 and use it with a great variety of bullets including lead.

A lot of deer have fell to the 270 130 grain, most of mine usually fell in their tracks, I like the mild recoil and flat shooting of the round. 308, 280, 270WSM, 30-06, 7-08 and 260 are all great rounds for deer.

It really depends on which reloading manual the deer has been reading.

Either is fine. I like the .270 for hunting large fields. I like the 308/30-06 for the bullet selection.

308
way more bullets to choose from.
out of a pistol I don't think a 270 is going to be much flatter if shooting the same grn bullet

Well, truth be told, a .270 isn't "much flatter" from a rifle either.
