FTFs with Remington Buckhammers
« on: November 20, 2008, 09:39:40 AM »
So I took my new (to me) USH 12 gauge out to sight in today.  Started with Lightfield Hybreds and fired 10 rounds fine.  I then switched to Buckhammers as that is what I wanted to use this weekend and the first round did not go off when the hammer dropped.  Took the shell out and the primer had a dent.  Put it back in the gun and tried again...same result.  Tried a new shell and same thing.  Switched back to the Hybreds and again those fired fine.

Luckily the store let me return the Buckhammers as I just purchased them.

Any ideas?  Is this common with USHs or do you think it was the ammo?

I use them in my 20ga USH on a SB-1 receiver and have never had a failure.  Maybe 25 to 30 rounds so far.  I have also used a 12ga barrel on a SB-2 receiver and shot maybe 20 to 25 rounds with no failures.

I shoot them also and have never had a FTF...one thing I did find out thou with the new ultragon bbl is the managed recoil and the standard Buckhammers shoot entirly differant where as I could shoot them both out of the bull ultra bbl and they shot within an inch of each other. Kurt

I've had an occasional FTF with Remington Copper Solids in my 12 gauge USH.  Slight dent to the primer but no ignition no matter how many times I dropped the hammer on it.  Other brands that I've tried (Federal, Lightfield, Hornady) fire fine though.   I'd say out of about 200 rounds through my USH since I've owned it, I've only had about 3 to 4 fail like this, all Remington.  I can't say the gun is at fault so I suspect its just a hard primer or a deep seated primer.  The ones that don't fire will always fire out of my Rem 870 so the ammo is okay.

My two cents.

Good shooting!
