Hi Rick,    It's a good thing that they received a pardon.  You could have exceeded your bag limit with one shot!  Rick, we know that you are a nice guy from our meeting on the 4 th of July in 2007, but I believe I just figured out the REAL reason why you didn't shoot.  Isn't that small building just to the left of the muzzle, at the edge of the field, your powder magazine?  Or was the magazine taller and more narrow?

Regards,

Mike and Tracy
Smokin' my pipe on the mountings, sniffin' the mornin'-cool,
I walks in my old brown gaiters along o' my old brown mule,
With seventy gunners be'ind me, an' never a beggar forgets
It's only the pick of the Army that handles the dear little pets - 'Tss! 'Tss!

We simplified it.  We don't usually roast the bird whole.  I joint it and we cook it as parts on a bed of stuffing.  But the wing tips, drumsticks, the upper back, and a few other bits all go into the stock pot.

Mike and Tracey,

The fuzzy thing off to the left is actually a wagon that my neighbor "Cliff" (you met Cliff) uses to haul his firewood with. He tends to park it there so it won't clutter up his yard.

The picture is actually taken from right in my yard...the powder magazine is quite aways to the left and behind, out back a good 400 feet behind the hill .... no where near in the picture. This is my "blank" firing range.

To get your bearings, the structure that we cleaned your cannon in is 100 feet to to the rear and a few feet to the left.

The "Wild Turkeys" I have been feeding for 4 generations now... Their great grandfather would eat grain out of my hand (it hurts when I do that!).

Rickk,

I've heard they're dangerous when they form ranks like that!

You can have the drumsticks I prefer the breast meat  :).

When the time comes please submit that photo for the 2010 calender it's perfect for November!  ;D

Mr president I do not cling to either my gun or my Bible.... my gun is holstered on my side so I may carry my Bible and quote from it!

During the Civil War a Federal artillery crew fired a round of cannister into a flock of ducks on the Potomac River in order to enhance their Christmas dinner.  Apparently they had plenty to eat.

Theres a guy on the net who goes into detail on Deer hunting w/ a Mountain Howie . Also he "hunts" feral cats w/ a mortar at 400 yds IIRC .

It looked like it was painless anyway , for sure in the case of the deer . Far too many .69's (x3-4) to live lon...

Anyway as the resedent veg. here I'm glad you spared those turkeys.

Buckstix's animal shooting antics with a cannon caused the first food fight we had on the forum.  It's off limits.  move on.

  • I see what you did there...
Warning - while you were typing a new reply has been posted. You may wish to review your post.

DD, I just killed a lengthy response upon reading this warning. I had already hit SUBMIT on a post that probably would have cost me my membership, and a few friends.

Thanks for stepping in. There's a good reason why this is off-limits.
