1st ML Deer
« on: December 06, 2008, 07:12:47 AM »
I shot this nice 10 pt this morning around 730 using my NEF ML 50 cal. with 295 Powerbelts over 2 Pyrodex pellets.  Distance was no more than 40 yds. I heard the deer coming through a thicket to the left of my tripod stand along a well used trail. As it entered a small clear spot I shot and with the smoke couldn't tell if it was a good hit because I saw it jump over a fallen tree. But it only walked about twenty yds. and layed down.  I waited about 20 minutes then walked right up to it.  I am really pumped!  Only my second buck ever and both are 10 pointers. My two buddies didn't see anything down in the valley where they were...breakfast was on me.

Don't use the truck Stimpy!  My goal this year was to get one with the ML. I had one of the $15 doe tags that didn't get filled though.

I am looking forward to buying a 357 mag. and practicing for next year's goal, a deer with a handgun!

Sam-
finally got to break in my ML and it was a real treat.  Past 2 yrs. during ML seasons I either didn't see anything or the deer were too far away.  My goal this year was to use the ML during our regular slug season and I am glad it worked out!

Joe,
I've used muzzleloaders more then shotguns over the years. It's addicting :). I've taken 10 deer in the last 4 years with my Encore.

It's doubtful, we are going to visit our daughter's family in NY the day after Christmas, unless we get bad weather then we will stay home and I can hunt during ML.  Good luck if you go out. Merry Christmas!
