Welding mortar barrel
« on: June 12, 2010, 08:52:27 AM »
How should the argon barrel and 1018 powder chamber be welded to each other, Will be done with a wire- gas welder, The powder chamber is 6 in. round with a 30 deg. to 4 in. flat end, and the flat on the tube was  sawed to a 4 in flat..This will mate up perfect with a chamber on the tube, What are the condition now for the welding to be done, Like heat, wire size and ect. Thanks- Joe

I suppose that you are going to have it done by a professional welder , or ??

a professional welder will know what to do

as you dont know what wire and so I hope you not will try by yoursedlf

its  N O T   to be rude I say this , but to join this 2 pieces to a mortar takes a skilled welder who knows what he is doing as this must be the absolutely most critical you can do when you are building any type of cannon .
