What do you think of sents for predators
« on: January 14, 2009, 02:43:38 PM »
I have not heard of this ??? But when I trapped I used Rabbit urin to mask my sent on fox sets and it worked very well. Here in NJ I hunt Fox with a distressed Rabbit call. I always felt spraying a mist of Rabbit urin in the air on a frigid night would only help to pull the game in.I figured if I was in enough pain to make the noise comming from the call :o I would probably PEE MYSELF! So what are your thoughts? J.Michael

I've been using a fox masking spray when calling for fox or coyotes. I read it in one of my predator hunting magazines. It can't hurt.

I am planning to try something new to me but it has been around for a while. It is called misting. You take three or four types of urines in a spray bottle and spray downwind of your calling site. The logic behind the technique is that animals like coyotes will get a sensory overload and cannot differentiate between the scents. So your scent is effectively masked.

I was going to use that last night but guess what? I arrived at my spot without ammunition. What an idiot I was.

Cant hurt anything and I think that it is a trick used in competition. I always call upwind but pay attention to my shooting lanes on either side and will use a bark from the open reed if necessary to stop a fast, circling coyote.
