Trading off my Kimber need a replacement.
« on: December 18, 2008, 03:07:08 PM »
Im trading off my Kimber 1911 poly stainless, for a S&W m15 & assesories. So now Im looking for a replacement. Im looking for a handgun thats made in USA. I cant afford another Kimber so what are my options. To be honest Im not that picky when it comes to handguns, as long as it feels good in my hand & shoots descent. I know that sounds terrible, Im just not into the handguns as I am my rifles. But I want to buy Made in USA. I looked at a Ruger .40 . cant remember the model, but the all steel one was $550 The one with the poly frame was $350.  Looked pretty, felt pretty good & I like the decocker. Just wondering what other options are out there. The guy at the counter told me Ruger or Kimber.
I dont care what gun Im using as long as Im hunting

Check out the Springfield XD's, a great gun for $550. The new XDM in 9mm holds 19+1, the 40 cal is 16+1, and the 45 is 13+1. I have 2 and I have been real impressed with them.

They're not made in the U.S. If the Kimber is not in your price range, then the other U.S. made guns aren't either, other than Ruger. Used guns might be another option.

Is this, by design, a plinker or a self defense weapon?

Both. I may shoot 100 rounds thru my handguns a year. My home protection is  a ruger sp101. The wifes more comfortable with a revolver.

Springfield is out as the OP specified American Made. Someone help me out here, the only American made handguns that I know of are: Kimber/Hi Point/Kel Tec, maybe some models of S&W, and a few Colts. What am I missing?  If it were me, I'd save my lunch money until I could buy another Kimber. Well, actually I would have kept the Kimber and saved my money until I could buy the mdl 15!
