That sound perfectly normal for H&R .38-55s Mine likes the .380/ .381 hardcast best 250grs seems to be the best wieght also. They shoot well but take some learning to get good loads for them. Do a search and you'll find alot on them.
After shooting Haywires .375 win that eskimo now has I've desided to spend more time with mine this summer, I am gonna have the chamber recut to axcept .380 bullets better and shorten it a few inches to make it a little faster handling, Scope it and put a set of monte carlo stocks on it.
This round can really hit a whitetail hard, Ian's impressed me with how well it performed on that buck I shot with it last year.
Good luck with your new rifle.
BTW where you at in Kentucky?
